Chamonix Carnival Parade takes place today

Chamonix Carnival Parade takes place todayTravelers can walk out of their hostels and onto the streets to take part in carnival fun in the popular winter sports destination of Chamonix today (25th February 2009).

The theme of the Chamonix Carnival this year is Africa and the music, costume and culture of the continent will be celebrated.

Face-painting stalls and African musicians will be in attendance at the railway stations of nearby Argentiere, Servoz and Les Pelerins.

Trains departing from these stations at 15:16 (local time), 15:45 and 16:06 respectively will head for Chamonix with passengers on board able to listen to traditional tales by African storytellers.

In Chamonix itself the parade will begin at 16:30 local time complete with giant puppets, performers on stilts and dancers.

Backpackers can follow the parade from Chamonix train station along avenue Michel Croz with many people in fancy dress joining in the fun.

The parade will eventually arrive at the Place du Triangle de l'Amitie.

After a performance by the MJC Youth and Outdoor Center, the festivities of King Carnival will commence.
