Ceramics Galleries to reopen in London

London's Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is to display pieces from its ceramic collection for the first time in nearly a century next year.

Opening in September 2009, the new galleries will feature more than 3,000 items from ancient Chinese pottery to modern ceramics.

Mark Jones, director of the museum, said: "The V&A's ceramics collection is one of the greatest glories of the museum. With these new galleries, it is set to become the world's leading resource for international ceramics."

Some of the objects on display date back to 2500 BC, and highlights include a drinking cup from Ancient Greece, porcelain from China's Ming Dynasty, 14th century Spanish pottery and Japanese porcelain brought to Europe by the Dutch East India Company.

For those who have booked London hostels to see something a bit more modern, there will be two rooms with 20th century items on display, including tableware by Wedgewood.
