Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary are "astronomically cheap"

Those looking to take a cheap backpacking trip in the near future have been advised to head for eastern Europe.

Speaking recently, Bob Atkinson, an expert at travelsupermarket.com, said travelers will find excellent value for money in destinations such as Hungary, Poland and Bulgaria.

"They are not linked to the euro and general costs of living and standards of living are much lower than the UK, albeit they are paid a lot less as well so it is all relative to them locally," he explained.

Mr Atkinson added that British people, who are "fairly rich in the scheme of things", are likely to find such destinations "astronomically cheap" compared to home.

A recent survey carried out by Tesco Travel Money revealed that many people are looking to cut their costs this year.

Of those polled, 34 per cent claimed they plan to spend less on traveling and make their hard-earned cash stretch further.
