Budget travelers can find value in Bulgaria
Bulgaria has made a comeback and is now reinstated as the cheapest travel destination in the world.
This is the finding of the Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer, which hostel-staying backpackers looking for a cost-effective travel experience may wish to consult for further ideas.
Bulgaria takes the top spot despite the decline of sterling, which led to Thailand, South Africa and Egypt enjoying the top three positions last year.
Turkey and Croatia also appear in the top ten, while travelers on a budget may have to dig deep in their pockets before heading to Antigua, which is the most expensive destination.
Sarah Munro, Post Office head of travel services, commented: "The eurozone has taken a bashing this year but our survey suggests that outlets in many resorts are taking dramatic steps to encourage [travelers]."
Backpackers who find themselves in Bulgaria can visit the wealth of museums in the capital Sofia, lounge on the beaches of the Black Sea Coast and marvel at the rich culture and architecture that was left behind after five centuries of Ottoman rule.
