Budget travel to increase in popularity in 2009
An increasing number of people are set to look into budget travel options in 2009 as the recession continues to bite.
Research conducted by price comparison site trivago has found that an increasing number of travelers are opting for cheap destinations and hostel-staying as a way to keep costs down.
Planning ahead is also preferred by prospective backpackers and travelers who are more likely to get the best deals by comparing prices of flights and hostels early.
Sian Williams, country manager for trivago UK, commented: "People are looking to find the best rates for their holiday and people really seem to be trying to plan ahead and compare all the offers."
She added that as well as planning their trips abroad well in advance, 15 percent of those surveyed were searching for cheaper destinations.
According to Trivago, the price of a double room in Munich has risen by 16 per cent over the past few months, suggesting travelers on a budget would be wise to go for more affordable hostel accommodation.
