Brits choose to ski in France
Travelers embarking upon a ski trip to France are invariably British, says the French tourist office Maison de la France.
The majority of skiers seeking out hostel-staying adventures in the Alps and the Pyrenees are of British origin and the numbers do not appear to show signs of dwindling.
Jean-Pierre Courteau, director of Maison de la France, commented: "Skiing season was very good this year. We have 400,000 British skiers in France and they are still the main group in the French Alps and the Pyrenees."
He added that the great skiing weather, characterized by generous snowfall, meant that the season was a successful one.
Figures released by the Office for National Statistics in February 2009 revealed that despite the evidence that the ski season in France had been good, UK travelers to Europe were overall down by one per cent.
