Book hostels in time for Gay Pride
People traveling to London at the weekend may wish to spend Saturday (4th July 2009) at the Gay Pride festival.
The annual celebration of same-sex partnerships will kick off at Baker Street from 13:00 (BST) with the usual round of floats, bands, dancers and fabulous people.
Pride participants will wind their way down Oxford Street and Regent Street before moving on to Trafalgar Square to take in the sights and sounds.
Speakers from the world of politics such as Ben Bradshaw and Chris Bryant will be joined by a host of others to address the assembled crowd.
From 15:00 (BST) the entertainment will begin, while some people may wish to pop back to their hostels to freshen up before making their way to Soho.
The vibrant West End streets will be closed to traffic to make way for a street party extravaganza.
Gay Pride events often take place around 28th June 2009, which is the date that the Stonewall riots occurred.
Protesting at what they perceived to be victimization of minorities by the police, the gay community organized a series of demonstrations.
