Backpacking travelers can check-in by phone with Air Malta

Backpackers about to embark on their gap year travel adventure may be interested to learn that if they are flying with Air Malta, they can check-in using their mobile phone.

Mobiles that are internet-enabled can be used to access www.mobile-airmalta.com.

The phone check-in process works by inviting customers to enter their flight number as well as having their bar-coded boarding pass sent to their phone as an image, which they can display upon arrival at the airport.

Joe Cappello, Air Malta's chief executive, commented: "Following the encouraging feedback and take-up of check-in through our web portal launched last year, we went a step further and are now offering check-in facilities through mobile phones.

"Only a few airlines in the world have started to use this technology and we are excited to be one of the first. With the introduction of these new facilities and investment in new technologies we are reaffirming our commitment to our passengers by offering them an even easier service at the airport."

Travelers who decide to spend some time in Malta may wish to explore the Megalithic Temples and other World Heritage sites in the country.
