Backpacking in Baghdad could become a travel option

Backpacking in Baghdad could become a travel optionHostel-staying backpackers looking for an alternative travel experience may be interested to learn that bmi is poised to commence flights between Baghdad and London.

The low-cost airline is the second-biggest to operate out of Heathrow and has said that it plans to roll-out flights once authorization from the governments of the two countries is received.

Bmi has stated that it currently flies to the four countries that border Iraq and carries many Iraqi passengers.

It also said that the situation in the country continues to improve and will be boosted by investment.

Chief executive of the airline Nigel Turner commented: "Bmi is ready and willing to once again re-establish air links between Heathrow and Baghdad."

He added that he had written to Iraq's transport minister and is hoping for the route to be opened.

Baghdad is situated on the River Tigris and is the second-largest city in the Arab world.

It was a centre of arts, culture and learning in the eighth and ninth centuries and has many historical attractions and monuments.

These include the National Museum of Iraq and National Library that lost priceless artifacts during the 2003 US-led invasion.
