Backpacking by train to Amsterdam
Eurostar has announced a 22 percent rise in the number of passengers using its services to get to The Netherlands.
Backpackers are becoming more creative in their hostel-staying trips abroad and choosing rail travel as well as opting for low-cost flights.
An increase in the number of people venturing from London to Amsterdam via Brussels comes at the same time as the Dutch and Belgian railway authorities introduced a new high-speed route.
Connecting with Eurostar services, the state-of-the-art Fyra trains are set to dramatically reduce journey times.
Simon Montague, director of communications at Eurostar, commented: "Travelers are now discovering the advantages of high-speed rail for longer journeys across Europe.
"By making one simple connection they can avoid all the hassles of flying and enjoy journeys from city centre to city centre that are just as fast overall - and a lot more convenient."
Upon arrival in Amsterdam, travelers can take in some of the attractions of the eclectic city, including the museums and art galleries in Museum Square.
