Airport delays are travel low point

Airport delays are travel low pointTravelers frustrated with delays at UK airports are among a number who are impatient with strict security procedures.

A survey by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) explored this aspect of travel and found that backpackers looking for a quick baggage check-in or pick-up and fast progress through security checks are more likely to direct their anger at the airline instead of the airport.

Published this month, the research also revealed that passengers at Stansted Airport are more likely to experience delays than those at Gatwick or Heathrow.

Heathrow airport has been the subject of much media attention with high-profile delays forcing travelers to extend their stay and seek out hostel accommodation.

However, recent evidence has shown that waiting times, particularly for security checks, are being reduced.

James Fremantle, industry affairs manager from the Air Transport Users Council (AUC), commented: "There is definitely some truth with certain UK airports not being up to scratch compared to foreign airports."

He added that problems do exist but improvements are being made and the situation is not as bad as it used to be.
