Aer Lingus launches new Vilnius backpacking route

Irish carrier Aer Lingus has launched a new route to Vilnius in Lithuania.

The service, which will operate from Gatwick Airport, was officially declared open earlier this week by the Lithuanian ambassador Dr Oskaras Jusys.

Europe's current Capital of Culture, Vilnius is famed for its architecture and impressive historical attractions.

Commenting on the introduction of the service, Enda Corneille, Aer Lingus corporate affairs director, said: "With a bleak winter predicted, finding something to look forward to during the dark winter moments is vital."

She added that this is one of six new routes the airline has launched for the winter season.

From October 25th, Aer Lingus will operate flights to destinations including Bucharest, Eindhoven, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Warsaw, Faro and Malaga.

In related news, a recent poll by Skyscanner revealed that the majority of travelers would fly to their destination indirectly if it meant securing a cheap deal.
