The South American city of Lima is busy preparing for the annual mes morado festival which takes place in October.
As one of the most important events in Peru, the month-long festival pays homage to the city's patron saint Senor de los Milagros or the Lord of Miracles.
The purple month sees a number of events and processions. Hundreds of thousands of visitors line the streets to celebrate the patron saint with music, dancing and chanting.
A giant version of the Lord of Miracles often thought to be Jesus Christ is transported through the streets on the shoulders of devotees while other members of the procession sing hymns and wave incense all while wearing the color purple.
As with any festival, food plays a key role in the celebrations and visitors can sample local delights during the parades. Culinary delights to look out for include the sweet pastry Turron de Dona Pepa.
The world's longest Turron de Dona Pepa was made at the 2006 festival and measured 105 meters and weighed more than 2,000 kilos.
