This year's Bologna City of Food Festival is set to return to the streets of Italy's small historical city in the latter part of September.
Currently in its fifth year, this three-day food festival will see the city's streets transformed into a tasting frenzy, such is its popularity among visitors and locals.
Gap year travel visitors are likely to find themselves in their element, with classic and regional Italian cuisine given expert treatment by top chefs and street vendors alike.
Dishes are presented in a series of events that take place along some of the city's more prominent streets and squares.
From the local seven-meat soup extravaganza bollito misto through to the national favourites of tortellini and lasagne, travelers can expect to find at least one dish that is a hit with them.
Unfortunately, this year's festival falls too early for travelers to take advantage of seven new low-budget flights to Bologna unveiled by Ryanair last week.
The new routes begin on 27th October 2008, nearly one month after Bologna Food Festival will have taken place.
