More than 70 miles-worth of trail have already been rehabilitated as part of a long-term project to renovate the park's most heavily-used trails.
The Yellowstone Park Foundation raised around $2 million in 2007 for the restoration project, which it is hoped would improve the experience of those taking
hiking breaks in the region.
Some $500,000 is being provided for renovations over a five year period by the foundation. So far work on 16 trails has been completed.
Yellowstone National Park is home to a rich selection of wildlife, including more than 2,000 bison, which were placed there by president Teddy Roosevelt in a bid to save the mammals from extinction.
Established in 1872, Yellowstone is America's oldest national park and boasts grizzly bear, wolves and elk.
