Israel's Ministry of Tourism has launched a 24-hour helpline for tourists.
The new Tourphone service became available yesterday, July 20th, and is intended to improve the quality of service offered to luxury and
backpacking tourists alike.
Shaul Tzemach, director-general at the Ministry of Tourism, explained that the Tourphone will be the first of many initiatives set to be introduced over the next few months.
He told Haaretz: "Quality and standard of service are the most important and influential factors in a tourist's decision to return to Israel.
"In addition, quality service helps improve Israel's image in the world as a leading tourist destination."
The new helpline will be available all day everyday, providing general information, such as border crossing advice and directions, as well as guidance in the case of an emergency.
Although the service is currently only available in English and French, officials intend to offer other languages soon, including Russian.
Tourists will be provided with details of the new service when they enter the country.
