The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has published a new guide for tourists embarking on
gap year travel.
Entitled Go Gap Year, the new website will offer detailed information on different destinations around the world.
Everything from health insurance to practical and legal tips about working abroad, the guide is intended as an impartial resource for those planning on taking an extended trip to a foreign country.
The FCO's Alice Draper said: "The very nature of a gap year means that it is likely to be a prolonged trip, taking in a number of destinations.
"This can increase travellers' risk of encountering difficulties on their journey, so it is vital to prepare properly before setting off."
It also provides essential information about what travelers should do in the case of an emergency, or if adventure trips go wrong.
The guide also uses photographs and podcasts contributed by Lonely Planet.
