A new coral reef "teeming with life" has been discovered off the coast of Brazil.
Likely to cause any tourist planning
diving breaks to rethink their holiday plans, the new discovery could double the size of the Abrolhos Bank reef system.
Rodrigo, de Moura, Conservation International Brazil marine specialist, explained that he was shocked at the sheer "scale" of the discovery.
He said: "It is very exciting and highly unusual to discover a reef structure this large and harbouring such an abundance of fish."
However, the organisation's director of marine programs in the region, Guilherme Dutra, warned that only a small section of the reef was protected, putting it at environmental risk.
The reef is thought to exist at depths of up to 60 to 220 feet as little as nine miles off the coast of South Atlantic coast.
It is thought the previously unknown reef boasts up to 30 times the density of marine life found at its shallower counterparts.
