The Fleurieu Peninsula, near Adelaide in South Australia is hoping to cement itself as the country's prime adventure holiday hotspot.
In its latest brochure, the Adventure Guide lists more than 50 activities on offer to
backpacking tourists on their travels through South Australia.
However, as well as those activities the area is already famous for, such as surfing and Southern Right Whale spotting, there are a host of other activities it wants to draw visitors' attentions to.
Roz Becker of Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism claims that the adventure tag is more than just a PR gimmick.
She told the Victory Harbour Times: "From spotting Southern Right Whales to diving the ex-HMAS Hobart, riding in historic bi-planes and surfing some of the best breaks in the country, the Fleurieu Peninsula is known for its outdoor activities that get the adrenalin pumping.
"Claiming the adventure tag title is a South Australian first and it fits well with the region given the number of fantastic adventure activities we have on offer."
Other lesser-known activities include the sea kayaking and pole walking through the Deep Creek Conservation Park.
There are also more than 75 wineries in the region to entertain those keen on tasting the local tipple in between their outdoor adventures.
