The island of Boracay in the Philippines is on its way to becoming an environment-friendly destination.
Authorities, resort and business owners are the second popular tourist destination after Bali to join Greenpeace in its battle to introduce environmentally friendly solutions.
The pledge will no doubt come as good news to eco-conscious
gap year travel adventurers, who often have little control over the methods used by tour operators and businesses in worldwide destinations.
Executive director of Greenpeace Southeast Asia, Von Hernandez, stated that he hoped Boracay could become a model for other destinations in the region.
He said: "We are pleased that many resorts here are already implementing various energy saving measures which with a little more assistance and encouragement could be heavily replicated in all the establishments.
"Climate change poses real and huge risks to the tourism industry and the people who depend on the viability of this sector for their livelihood."
Save the Climate, Save Bocaray is a five point manifesto signed by all stakeholders on the island.
The manifesto includes a commitment to regular energy audits, skill shares and workshops to encourage successful practices such as water conservation.
