Las Vegas appeals to many tourists for its "razzmatazz" rather than its gambling, one expert has claimed.
The credit crunch has meant that domestic and international tourists in Las Vegas have had to find more to do than just gamble on arrival, but that hasn't stopped people visiting.
Figures from the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority indicate that nearly 3.5 million people visited Las Vegas in March 2008.
Phil Martin, editor of Casino Review magazine, said: "There always seem to be people who are saving up and either going to Vegas or talking about it.
"There's obviously all the razzmatazz that goes along with Vegas as well."
But while Las Vegas has something to offer all tourists, including
backpacking travelers, its counterpart Macau has overtaken it as a prime tourism resort.
The number of casinos in Macau has nearly tripled since 2003 and currently stands at 29.
