Syria has overtaken Thailand as the proud owner of the world's largest restaurant, the Bawabet Dimashq.
Following extensive tests, the 6,012-seat eatery has received its crown having survived the strict scrutiny of the Guinness World Record officials.
Deutsche Presse-Agentur was told by the restaurant manager, Muhanad al-Saman: "Representatives for the Guinness group have completed in the past weeks all the tests and checked all the details and services we offer."
World records aside however, the restaurant itself is an excellent place for
flashpacking tourists to enjoy some fine Syrian high-dining, although it also boasts a range of other world foods too.
Located on the outskirts of Damascus, the restaurant offers six different types of cuisine including Chinese, Iranian and Indian.
Unfortunately for some however, the restaurant doesn't stock any alcohol.
But many will no doubt see this as a small inconvenience given the Bawabet's themed fountain and pool motifs that decorate it.
