A popular Scottish tourist destination will soon be able to boast some authentic Brazilian flair for visitors, it has been revealed.
The Scottish capital has been paired with Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in a tourist partnership that could see an influx of
backpacking Brazilians flocking to its streets.
Edinburgh's northerly district of Leith is responsible for the fresh visitor interest, having applied for the twin city break link.
Leith Festival board member Sandy Campbell told Edinburgh News that both cities are in contention for being the most beautiful cities in the world.
He said: "Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and another contender is Rio, so in my opinion it's a perfect match."
Meanwhile Edinburgh is preparing for one of its most packed tourism calendars during 2009, with as many as 250 events celebrating Burns Night in January through to St Andrew's Day on November 30th.
