Downhill biking and Nordic walking are just some of the summer activities on offer to tourists at European ski resorts this summer, it has been revealed.
The move is a bid by tour operators to make the most of the peaks during the summer season, where the impact of climate change is forcing
backpacking tourists to consider alternatives to ski breaks.
According to the director at the tourist office in the French Alps resort of Avoriaz, Stephan Lerendu, many resorts have installed summer sports facilities for this reason alone.
He told the Telegraph: "People think snow is a resource that will never run out but it's difficult right now.
"Tennis courts, saunas and gyms are must-haves. Golf courses are indispensable for ski stations."
Meanwhile, as European slopes lose their skiing clientele to climate change, Japan has been hotly tipped to be the next skiing mecca, according to the Japan National Tourist Organisation (JNTO).
Japan is particularly suitable for Australian budget tourists, with the Australian dollar performing well against the Japanese Yen.
