Budget skiing and
diving breaks could soon be more readily available to tourists, according to the World Youth, Student and Education (WYSE) Travel Confederation.
A new report compiled in conjunction with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) found that many countries are attempting to attract niche sports markets in a bid to latch onto the international
gap year travel trend.
According to the report, complied over the last five years, half of youth accommodation and hostel providers have invested in additional infrastructure and facilities, such as information services and discount deals.
However, despite emerging destinations no doubt gaining a piece of the pie, the most popular destinations for
gap year travel remain Australia, USA and France.
Meanwhile, the report suggests that 80 per cent of travelers return more tolerant and respectful of other cultures than when they set off.
Some 60 per cent of global tourism authorities also rank
student travel and youth tourism as a very important part of their industry.
