Bulgaria is rising from the
backpacking ranks and is fast establishing itself as a popular mainstream tourist destination, according to reports.
In a poll by Expedia.com, Bulgaria was voted second in the Top Ten Destinations for 2007, considered to have the most beautiful coastline and a huge variety of historical and contemporary attractions.
For the winter months, Bulgaria also has more than 200 ski resorts that "boast the bells and whistles of the western slopes, but without the hefty price tag".
Its ski slopes have been so popular that tourists from as far a-field as Australia and New Zealand have been flocking to the Bulgarian piste.
Bulgaria is also a great place to meet other travelers from across the globe as its tourist authorities focus on attracting tourists that would not normally consider it as an option.
According to Bulgaria's State Agency for Tourism, travelers from Iran and South Korea are the most recent holidaygoers to have been targeted by its campaign.
