Backpacking bloggers are shaping the services the industry provides, according to one industry expert.
Significant increases in the number of people booking holidays and
hostels online has led some tourist service providers in Australia to use blogs and review sites to shape what they offer.
According to Tourism NSW international marketing manager Carmel Beattie, the best service providers are those that adapt to the feedback available.
Online blogging has become even more important for
backpacking tourists traveling to remote destinations where operators may not have a strong online presence.
Ms Beattie told AAP: "We have to provide really great experiences because if we're not they'll certainly be telling people."
The travel blogging medium has become so popular that social networking site Bebo has launched an interactive Gap Year show in which travelers have their holiday activities planned by online viewers.
"In a way it really keeps us up to the mark," added Ms Beattie.
