Sir Paul McCartney has agreed to play at a free concert in Kiev, Ukraine in June at the city's Independence Concert.
The ex-Beatle follows in the footsteps of another international star, Sir Elton John, who performed to a crowd of around 200,000 people last summer at an event to promote AIDS and HIV awareness.
This year's Independence Concert is being held to celebrate the Ukraine gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
A statement from the Viktor Pinchuk Foundation, responsible for organising the event, suggested that Sir Paul's presence will have special significance for many
backpacking attendees from neighboring countries.
It said: "The ideology and spirit of The Beatles helped build the democratic aspirations for much of the Soviet society and eventually led to the peaceful collapse of the USSR and the independence of the former Soviet republics."
The performance will take place on June 14th in the city's main Independence Square.
