British Airways (BA) has announced it is to suspend flights from Manchester in the UK to New York JFK airport in October.
Services will instead be moved to Gatwick, bringing the total daily flights from the capital's two major airports to 62.
Backpacking tourists in Manchester keen to take advantage of the weak dollar will no doubt be disappointed at the move, which will add further travel costs to a trip to the US state.
In a clear sign that the airline are pandering to business passengers, general manager of network planning at BA Lynne Embleton also unveiled plans to launch business-only flights from London City airport.
"The new Gatwick service will give our customers even more choice when flying between London and New York," added Ms Embleton.
New York has become increasingly popular among tourists, with a million more visitors during the first quarter of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007.
