China's "melting pot of culture and traditions" has plenty to offer
gap year travel tourists, an industry expert has claimed.
While China has recently found itself the subject of press coverage in the run up to the Beijing Olympics in September, there are a great many other enticing attractions beyond the capital.
"China has so much to offer as a travel destination, from famous attractions like the Great Wall, Forbidden City and Terracotta Warriors, to stunning, immensely varied landscapes," explains Hfu Reisenhofer, production editor of Real Travel magazine.
A World Tourism Organization report forecasts international visitor growth of five per cent per year in until 2020 for the East Asia region and China could be set to lead the way.
But Mr Reisenhofer added that although China is becoming more accessible it is still one of the more "challenging destinations", especially away from major cities.
However, for those embarking on
student travel eager to experience authentic China, this challenge may be just what they're looking for.
