Phuket in Thailand is preparing to host a huge Thai New Year's party on the island's Patong beach.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has unveiled plans for a beach party from April 10-13th.
More than 50,000 tourists are expected in Phuket for the celebrations, with the New Year enjoyed as much by tourists as by Thais themselves.
The island of Phuket is popular among both luxury and
backpacking travelers, but to the dismay of many, this year's celebrations are accompanied by a trial 30-day alcohol ban.
Remaining up-beat, vice minister Dumwrong Raknaa told the Phuket Gazette that the ban would allow visitors to "learn about our great cultural traditions, such as fruit carving and basket weaving".
Free entertainment and activity stalls in Soi Bangla, Soi Paradise and other major tourist areas will be set up in a bid to keep revellers entertained.
