Travel insurance is essential for gap year travelers, an industry expert has claimed.
A spokesperson for leading travel company STA Travel claimed that travel insurance is an "absolute must" for
gap year travel to cover "every eventuality".
Research suggests there is an increasing awareness of travel insurance. An American Express poll in November 2007 indicated that 59 per cent of travel agents reported a rise in travel insurance enquiries.
In order to avoid problems, budget travelers have also been warned to "plan as much of their trip as possible in advance by STA Travel.
"Travel insurance is an absolute must for any traveller to ensure they are covered for every eventuality wherever they are in the world.
"There are RSS live feeds that travellers can subscribe to via their mobile phone, which will keep them up to date with 'what's on when' and flight offers."
A 2007 i-to-i report claimed that 29 per cent of people planned to quit their job and embark on
gap year travel, nearly double 2003 figures.
