It might be a strange tourist attraction, but many inquisitive backpackers are taking tours of Australian drains when they go down under.
But odd as it may seem, Sydney's historic sewers are so highly sought after that some tourists are even being turned away, reports Reuters.
It is little surprise that these drains have become such an integral part of the
backpacking itinerary, as they are one of the oldest in tact architectural structures from the first European settlements.
Pasquale Hastings of Sydney's Historic Houses Trust explains that there is a huge appeal of normally off-limits spaces.
He told Reuters: "I've had people calling up and offering all kinds of bribes to try and get a place on the tour."
Meanwhile, authorities in Australia's biggest city have recently launched the Sydney Major Events Corporation in a bid to draw in tourists, following the success of a similar Melbourne initiative.
