Airplane tickets on flights between cities in the US and Europe could get cheaper due to the Open Skies agreement, Virgin Atlantic has claimed.
The deal between the European Union and the US came into force on March 30th 2008 and allows any airline to fly between destinations on either continent.
However, the transatlantic airline has warned rivals looking to compete in the market that existing carriers will be keen to keep their customer base of budget travelers, such as those on

A spokesperson for the company explained that the transatlantic aviation market is "already one of the most competitive aviation markets in the world".
She said: "Virgin Atlantic has warned that the new entrants to the US-UK market will find existing Heathrow carriers are more than ready to do battle."
Meanwhile, British carriers have recently voiced concerns about the agreement, which they claim unfairly favours US interests.
