Music lovers on a budget should consider overseas festivals rather than domestic ones, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
Booking tickets for festivals in warmer climates is not only cheaper, but can also provide a focal point for budget
backpacking around new continents.
According to an Abta spokesperson, low-cost flights and "considerably lower" ticket prices for festivals that boast international and national stars often come with an "added advantage".
He said: "The most popular venues are not at classic tourist resorts.
"For example, Benicassim in Spain is on the Costa Azahar, which is not in our usual haunt, the Costa del Sol, but is easily accessible from Valencia and near to some of the most stunning cities and beaches in Spain."
Other events of note include the popular EXIT festival in Novi Sad, Serbia, WOMAD in Australia and Iceland Airwaves which all offer opportunities to combine festival frolics with a holiday experience.
