Backpacking around Britain promises variety on a budget, according to UKinbound.
Secondary cities, such as Blackpool and Leeds, are becoming increasingly popular among tourists as low-cost carriers have begun flying to them direct.
UKinbound chief executive Stephen Dowd explained that the UK's international popularity "has a great deal to do with our history, our culture and the sheer variety of things we have in this country".
He said: "There is something here for everyone, that's why people come here from abroad.
"People can now fly directly into Leeds-Bradford, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff.
"It tends to be relatively priced as well so it is a growing facet of the market," he added.
According to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (Alva), Blackpool Pleasure Beach had 5.5 million visitors in 2007, while the Tower of London had more than two million.
