Staying in touch while
backpacking in even the most remote locations is set to become possible, following the launch of a new
gap year travel gadget.
The Backpacker's Diary resembles a book, but can perform more functions than your average laptop.
Equipped with flexible solar panels, it is capable of running even when the batteries have run out.
In addition, it has a GPS system to stop backpackers from getting lost and a handy voice recorder to keep track of experiences on the move.
It is also equipped with a EL light feature that will keep the screen in view on even the darkest evenings.
Book-like features mean that travelers can choose different functions by turning over the diary's pages, with each performing a different function.
The Backpacker's Diary is also smaller and lighter than many PC's and if lost is not likely to see other important information go with it.
Already proving a popular idea in the IT world, the concept has been entered into the Next-Gen PC Design Competition.
