Figures released by analysts at comScore show that Britons are turning to travel websites in increasing numbers.
The travel sector was one of the biggest risers in January 2008, as consumers wrapped up the festive period and began thinking of sunnier climes such as the Caribbean during the UK's dark winter months.
Hotels and resorts saw a rise in visitor traffic on December of 54 per cent, airlines were up by 46 per cent and online travel agents were up by 43 per cent, with all pulling in more than ten million unique visitors for the month.
The travel industry has long been intertwined with the internet, with travellers now able to make the most of new applications and the latest technology when deciding where to go.
Virtual tours and video footage of locations, as well as the ability to compare different deals through comparison sites, has made the web a key tool for any holidaymaker.
