
Learning experiences are becoming an increasingly popular part of the
gap year travel itinerary, according to STA Travel.
According to Mintel Gap Year Reports, the
gap year travel market is expected to grow to around 11 billion by 2010 attracting pre and post-university as well as career break
backpacking enthusiasts.
But an increasing number of gap year travelers want to acquire a new skill while on their
gap year travel tour, a spokesperson for STA Travel has revealed.
She said: "The majority of gappers said they wanted to take something more than just a tan and fantastic memories back from their year out.
"[Some] 53 per cent saying
hoped to learn a new skill while on their gap year.
"Twenty-four per cent hoped this would be a new language, while 11 per cent of respondents said they hoped to learn to cook the cuisine of a new country."
