Backpacking in Amsterdam will take on a whole new meaning when it dons the crown of World Book Capital 2008.
Following in the success of previous cultural luminaries such as Madrid, Montreal and Turin, Amsterdam will play host to literary fans the world over when it officially takes up the mantle on April 23rd.
In aid of its World Book Capital Status, the city is due to hold more than 30 different events throughout the year, including an exhibition of John Everett Millais at the Van Gogh Museum.
Tourists are advised to book early to avoid disappointment, with
hostels likely to be in short supply for more popular events.
However,
student travel literary enthusiasts will need to make sure they don't get their dates confused, with Amsterdam's bi-annual nudist fair set to take place from April 1st to the 5th.
"Some 80 stands will present themselves on the first fair," a spokesman for the nudist fair told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
