The French capital of Paris clearly figures highly in the romantic estimations of those
backpacking around Europe, but for all the wrong reasons.
According to research by Expedia, 51 per cent of respondents in a survey of 5,000 Australians said that Paris was the best chance of a holiday romance.
However, 25 per cent of those
gap year travel and
backpacking holiday-goers admitted to having cheated on their partners while abroad.
Marketing director for Expedia, Kristy Barrow, suggested that the phrase "it doesn't count if it's in a different postcode" never applied so well.
She said: "We've all heard the phrase, 'It doesn't count if it's in a different postcode', but we never thought so many people would seriously be putting this into practice."
However, it is Brazilians that are considered the sexiest natives, with 34 per cent of respondents showing their preference for the South Americans.
Recent research by the World Trade Organisation indicated that the number of travelers visiting France from abroad has risen by one million over the last 12 months.
