Those embarking on
gap year travel keen to add some extra luxuries to their budget break need look no further than the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
But those
backpacking or on
student travel down under will need to be quick to catch the popular two-week event, which is expected to attract around 330,000 tourists set on tantalising their tastebuds.
Running over 16 days from February 22nd until March 8th, the 220 event bonanza will include the highly anticipated World's Longest Lunch as well as masterclasses run by internationally-renowned chefs.
The festival's chief executive Natalie O'Brien notes that the emphasis is on providing global cuisine for what she no doubt hopes will be an international audience.
"The city's laneways and rooftops, its art and architecture, the river - and all the global cultures that have come together here - will serve as a distinct backdrop to a celebration of food and wine," she told Sydney Morning Herald.
