Barcelona's
hostels will be gearing up to welcome
backpacking and
flashpacking tourists alike following Ryanair's plans to introduce 12 new routes to the capital.
The new flights will operate from the base in Rues, located close to the Catalan city, the airline's fifth Spanish base.
Cheap flights that already entice
gap year travel and
student travel enthusiasts from Dublin, Liverpool and London Stansted will now be joined by those taking off from Birmingham, Paris and Seville.
Chief executive Michael O'Leary noted that the local community will benefit the most from the influx of travelers.
"The one million passengers that Ryanair delivers to and from Reus next year will generate a local visitor spend of at least 150 million."
A trip to the much-loved Spanish city may also serve as the perfect opportunity for Valentines Day lovers to escape to, with 56 per cent of Britons indicating they'd prefer to celebrate their love on overseas pastures.
