The Budapest Spring Festival is shaping up to be the must-visit destination to welcome in the new Jetsetting year.
Running from the 14th to the 30th March, Hungary's annual celebration and largest cultural gathering boasts over 200 events and performances.
Guaranteed to capture the imagination of travelers on a
backpacking or
student travel stopover, performances range from classical to rock music and contemporary to traditional Andalucian flamenco dance.
Some cheap
hotels and youth
hostels will also be providing celebratory prices for the festival, such as four nights for the price of three, which will no doubt go down well with international attendees.
The highlight of this year for opera fans will be a performance of Bizet's Carmen and Puccini's La Boheme at the Hungarian State Opera House, where tickets will be on sale for less than £5.
For other music fans, the festival always manages to bring out the big guns. For example, 2007 saw multi-Grammy award winning saxophonist Branford Marsalis take to the stage, much to the delight of jazz fans.
