London will be the first city in the UK to benefit from a new portable and budget hotel concept from hotel chain Travelodge.
The new 120-room Uxbridge hotel development, comprised of renovated and reassembled shipping containers, will cost a mere £19 to stay in.
Travelodge, the company behind the new recyclable hotel, indicate that this kind of temporary hotel could be ideal for "festivals or sporting events", where accommodation can often be costly for visiting tourists.
According to the company's director of property & development, Paul Harvey, the rooms will offer all the luxuries expected of a conventional hotel suite.
He said: "It may not look like a hotel right now, the containers will be fitted out to include
comfortable bed, ensuite bathroom, wardrobe, mirror, desk and chair, right down to the plasma TV and free tea and coffee making facilities."
The hotel cost the company around £500,000 less to build, and can be constructed in three quarter's of the time it takes to build a permenant hotel.
Travelodge estimate they could use this method for nearly half of their scheduled hotel constructions until 2020.
It is hoped the portable hotels will come into their own during the London 2012 Olympics.
