The famous Zocalo Square in Mexico City is currently home to the world's largest ice rink.
Double the size of any Olympic rink, the ice rink is also free to the public with the project being paid for by local business, reports the BBC.
The city's often colorful mayor Marcelo Ebrard has been behind the monumental skating development and has pledged his hopes that the rink will make Mexico City one of the world's "coolest" places.
"It is an opportunity to compete with New York or Paris or any country," he added.
However, with a population that dwarfs most other cities, it is perhaps only right that the rink is of such gargantuan proportions.
Costing a total of $1.5 million, cars had to be removed from the square in order to lay down the 74km of piping which ensures that the 3000sq m of ice stays cold enough in the 25 degrees Celsius climate.
The Washington Post reveals that the rink is nearly five times the size of the one at Rockefeller Plaza in New York.
