Tourists traveling to Nepal are finding all sorts of ways to enjoy one of the country's proudest wildlife attractions, it has been revealed.
Travelers that found themselves in Nepal over the Christmas period would have been treated to the latest annual elephant race.
A total of 11 Nepalese teams were joined by nine international competitors on Friday in Sauraha in Chitwan for the showdown that pits the best of the elephant racing elite against each other.
It was the Asian Bird of Thailand that pipped opponents to the post in a tightly contested race that saw Mana Kamana Cable Car and KTC Poland come in second and third place respectively.
This is Nepal's fourth annual elephant race - an event that was initially pioneered to raise the country's tourism profile.
Nepal has one of the largest elephant populations in the world and the Nepali Wildlife Reserve is home to one of the world's last known wild Asian elephant herds.
Unfortunately one of the reserve's inhabitants, Raja Gaj - thought to be the world's largest Asian elephant - went missing earlier this month.
