A new high-speed European rail network looks set to provide a greener alternative for holidaymakers traveling around Europe, a leading industry expert has suggested.
Rail services connecting London to the major centers of Amsterdam and Spain are likely to appeal to environmentally conscientious travelers as an alternative to air travel.
According to Rail Europe, the European high-speed network is "improving and increasing all the time".
"Currently it takes I think about six and a half hours to get from London to Amsterdam, which is quite a long time really," a spokesperson explained.
"Once this new high-speed link is open, that time is going to be reduced to about four hours."
Those traveling to and through France can already take advantage of a high-speed network serving over 60 national destinations at speeds of up to 186 miles per hour.
The latest £800 million restoration and extension of the Eurostar route between London St Pancras and Paris has seen journey times reduced to two hours and 15 minutes between the two capitals.
