An ecotourism project is set to kick off in the resource-rich Ijari district of Kenya, it has been revealed.
The Coastal Development Authority (CDA), which is to establish the project, hopes that it will go some way to improving the lives of residents in the area in addition to providing an excellent tourism opportunity.
CDA managing director, Dr Nesbert Mangale, told the Nation that the authority planned to attract tourists in an effort to boost the economy.
"Ijara District is blessed with unique natural resources such as rare Hirola antelopes, birds and Lake Jerey with its many hippopotamuses," he added.
Meanwhile, Kenya presidential candidate, Mr Kalonzo Musyoka, has pledged to develop the Coast Province should his party form the next government, reports the East African Standard.
The CDA also plans to build a new dam in the Ijara District early next year, in the Hulugo area.
