Colombia has gone from "terrorism to tourism" according to the country's president.
Policies introduced by the president have been celebrated by those in the tourism industry in Colombia, with measures such as higher security increasing tourist numbers, reports the BBC.
"The number of tourists has clearly grown over the last couple of years and that's all to do with improved security," said Luis Caballero, a local trader in the city of Cartagena.
Colombia recently embarked on a $4 million (£1.9 million) marketing campaign to help change the global image of Colombia.
Often serving as an indicator of increased tourism popularity, global corporations are also showing signs of recognizing the increase of holidaymakers to the country.
Most notably, fast-food chain Burger King is to open restaurants in the cities of Medellin and Cali in Colombia over the next few years, with one due in the first half of 2008.
